Chelsea Career

Born on 18 February 1995 in Gravenhage, Holland, Nathan joined from Feyenoord in the summer of 2011 after competing in the Under-17 World Cup.
Versatile, he is primarily a defender who can play either in the middle or on the left, but is also comfortable in the centre of midfield. A successful first season, which included reserve team appearances, ended with the 2012 FA Youth Cup Final win.
He made his first-team debut on Boxing Day 2012, one of six appearances that season. In January 2014, Ake was promoted to the first-team squad on a permanent basis by Jose Mourinho.

Ahead of the 2013/14 season it was announced Ake had signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, keeping him at the club until 2018. In January 2014 he was moved up from the Chelsea Under-21 squad into the first team squad on a full-time basis following the on-loan departure of Ryan Bertrand. He took squad number 27 having previously been 57.
While helping our Under-21 to the Under-21 Premier League title Ake trained with the first team and made his only appearance of the season as a late substitute in our final-day win at Cardiff.

Ake's second appearance of the season was his Champions League debut, coming on as a sub in the second half against Maribor in October and supplying the pass for Eden Hazard to make the final score 6-0.
On 25 March 2015 it was announced he would spend a month on loan at Reading in the Championship.

International Career

Ake was part of the Dutch side beaten by Germany on penalties in the final of the 2012 European Under-17 Championships. By the 2013/14 season he was a regular in the Under-21 side, often deployed at left-back.
He netted twice for his country in their unsuccessful European Under-21 Championship play-off tie with Portugal in October 2014.
