Patrick Bamford joined in January 2012 from Nottingham Forest where he made two first-team appearances. His Forest debut came as a substitute on the last day of 2011 against Cardiff City.
In pre-season for the 2011/12 season, Patrick scored a hat-trick against Chelsea in a youth team friendly, and in the FA Youth Cup for his former club he scored five times in a 9-1 win over Wigan Athletic before netting four in the next round at Southampton. Because of his involvement with Forest, Patrick then was cup-tied for our own Youth Cup campaign as we went on to win the trophy, beating Forest along the way.
With Forest since he was eight, he was a second-half substitute against Chelsea in the Youth Cup back in 2010 when still a 16-year-old. That was another season we won the competition.
In his first half-season at Chelsea, he played wide at times in a front three with Romelu Lukaku the centre-forward, but was given increasing chance in his natural no.9 role in the final weeks. He scored six goals in seven reserve games.
Bamford made his debut for England Under 18s in November 2010 and since his move to Chelsea has graduated to England Under 19s.
In November 2012, Bamford was loaned out to MK Dons, where he impressed on his debut during a 5-1 win against Colchester United.
Injuries, however, limited his involvement while at the club, and he returned to Stamford Bridge in January, 2013.
On the final day of the January transfer window, it was announced that Bamford would join MK Dons for a second loan spell until 20 May, during which he scored four goals in eight appearances.
He returned to MK Dons ahead of the current campaign and produced a string of impressive displays, scoring 17 goals in 30 appearances up until early January, when his deal expired. He was rewarded for his fine performances with the Football League Young Player of the Month award for December, a month in which he scored three goals.
Bamford's performances for Karl Robinson's side had understandably caught the eye, and it was announced early in 2014 that he would spend the remainder of the season on loan at Derby County. He scored on his home debut for the Rams, a fine curling effort from outside the box in a 1-0 win against Brighton and added a further seven goals as he started 14 games and made eight sub appearances, the final one of those ending in disappointment in the Championship play-off final as Derby were beaten by QPR in cruel circumstances at Wembley, losing to a Bobby Zamora curled left-footed strike in the 90th minute.
Bamford started on the bench for the Rams, and though he was sent on by manager Steve McClaren after they'd fallen behind, there was little time for the youngster to make an impact on proceedings.
In late August 2014, Patrick joined Middlesbrough on loan until January 1. It was announced on 31 December that the loan was extended to the end of the season.
