Mario Pasalic signed from Hajduk Split on 9 July 2014.
Upon completing his transfer, the 19-year-old said: ‘I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player.’
The German-born youngster enjoyed a fine first full season in senior football during 2013/14, scoring 11 times in 36 appearances in all competitions and helping his side to third place in the Croatian league. He made his first team debut late in the previous season.
He joined Jose Mourinho’s squad for pre-season training at Cobham and on 22 July, it was announced he would spend the 2014/15 season on loan in the Spanish top flight with Elche.
Having represented Croatia at Under-21 level and named in his country’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad for Brazil 2014 but not making the cut, he was given his senior international debut in
September 2014, coming on for Mario Mandzukic in the second half a friendly win at home to Cyprus.
