A tall, quick centre-back or right-back, Kenneth is a Nigerian international who has played for his country since Under-17s.

Previously with Standard Liege in Belgium, he spent 2012/13 on-loan in the Dutch top flight at Den Haag where he was a near ever-present.

Omeruo was called into the senior Nigeria squad ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, and after coming on as a substitute during their opening game against Burkina Faso, he played the full 90 minutes in the following five matches as the Super Eagles reached and won the final, Burkina Faso the opponents at the end as well as the beginning of the tournament.

Omeruo spent the majority of the second half of the season playing in the centre of defence, as opposed to at right-back, were he featured largely early on, and he continued to impress.

He returned to Stamford Bridge ahead of the current campaign and spent the early part of the season training with the first team squad after recovering from a shoulder injury.

In January it was announced he would be joining Middlesbrough on loan for the remainder of the season.

His first experience of English football proved a productive period in Omeruo's development.
After struggling to break into the side initially, the youngster established himself as a regular at the heart of the Middlesbrough defence.

He played predominantly in the centre of defence but also, on occasion, at right-back, producing consistent performances for the Championship side.

At the end of the season Omeruo was named in the provisional Nigeria squad ahead of the World Cup. In Brazil he played every game as his nation made the knockout stages before being beaten by France.
In August 2014 it was announced he would be returning to Middlesbrough on loan for the 2014/15 campaign.
