Jose Mourinho has a strong desire to secure the league title this season for those at Chelsea yet to experience such success.

The Blues manager is of course a serial winner of championships 
having finished top of the pile in four European countries, including 
England in 2005 and 2006 during his first spell at Stamford Bridge. With
 his team able to add a third Premier League to their manager’s 
collection should they beat Crystal Palace today, Mourinho has put into context where that would sit with the previous triumphs.

‘The titles in Portugal were big because Porto was coming from a very
 difficult moment, finishing fifth the season before when in Portugal in
 the last 20 years, the title was normally shared by two teams [Porto 
and Benfica].

‘In Spain it was fantastic because that was a period of real 
dominance by Barcelona, and Real Madrid had to do it with 100 points and
 we had to win in Barcelona’s stadium near the end of the season.

‘The ones in Chelsea were fantastic because it was the beginning of 
Mr Abramovich’s era with no title before that. Now, for me, it is a 
great feeling because it is my club, because of the league and because 
we are not any more the rich club. We are a top club but a club that 
lives from the work everyone does in this club.

‘It would mean a lot because we have lots of young players and it 
would be the first title for them, people that don’t know what it is to 
be a champions, so I want this one a lot and if we clinch the title, at 
that moment I will be much more happy for them than for myself.’

Mourinho will also be pleased if Chelsea do complete the task as he knows where silverware such as this can lead.

‘When they have the taste of success, the big players want more. 
There are people who are happy with just one victory but the big ones 
don’t get tired of winning. So I hope really that these players get a 
good taste which is maybe why the Capital One Cup was important for the 
group. We won a trophy and enjoyed Wembley, enjoyed the happiness of the
 supporters.’

No one at Chelsea is taking anything for granted however, especially 
as today’s opposition is a side managed by one of the few Premier League
 managers in Alan Pardew to have won games against a Chelsea side 
managed by Mourinho.

‘I have experience of his Newcastle when it was one thing for them to
 play against Chelsea and one thing to play against other teams,’ notes 
the Blues boss.

‘Maybe it because Alan is a Chelsea fan. He told me a lot of times 
that as a kid he was born near and he grew up as a Chelsea fan, but 
obviously he is a professional and he wants to win.

‘The reality is that when Alan’s teams play against Chelsea, they 
play a different match, so I am waiting for that, I am waiting for a 
Palace going with everything.’

Looking briefly beyond the climax to this season, part of the reason why Mourinho
 has used the fewest number of players of any Premier League club this 
season is the relatively early exit from the Champions League. That 
prevented a schedule as testing as two fixtures against the likes of 
Barcelona mixed in with our big domestic encounters with Manchester 
United and Arsenal.

As plans are put in place for next season with the aim of going 
further in Europe while staying top of the league, he anticipates new 
additions.

‘We need a couple of players to give more strength in depth to the 
squad. With some of the young boys we have, I have said already that Ruben Loftus-Cheek
 will be a Chelsea squad player but the others after a fantastic year of
 preparation for them, training with us, playing with the young people, 
probably for them the next good step will be to go on loan and to be 
replaced by two players.

‘We keep the same number of players because we don’t want more than 
that, but we keep a more uniform group in terms of experience, to give 
us that little extra in case we progress in the Champions League.’

Jose Mourinho insists his rivalry with Arsene Wenger is not important as Chelsea prepare to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. 
 
The relationship between the two managers has been fractious in the 
past, with Wenger shoving Mourinho during the reverse fixture in October
 and the Chelsea boss branding his opponent a "specialist in failure" 
last season. 
 
Sunday's meeting at the Emirates offers the Blues 
the chance to move one step closer to a fourth Premier League title - 
victory against Arsenal followed by three more points at Leicester City 
on Wednesday will see them secure the trophy with four games to spare. 
 
Mourinho has not lost to Wenger in 12 matches across various 
competitions but insists the match will not be about either man on the 
touchline. 
 
"For me he is not my rival, I don't feel that. I 
just feel he's the manager of a big club in the same city where I work 
and live," the Portuguese told reporters. 
 
"We're big clubs with
 the same objectives and because of that there will always come a little
 bit of rivalry but for me it's no different to when I was at Inter with
 the Milan managers or in Real [Madrid] with the Atletico managers. 
 
"I'm not proud [of his record over Wenger], for me an achievement is to
 win [on Sunday], not the other 12 matches that we played before against
 Arsenal, I don't look to this. 
 
"Every match is a match, no 
relation to the previous or the next one, what they [the players] care 
about is the way we work all week and the way we prepare ourselves for 
the game." 
 
Mourinho confirmed that Didier Drogba is fit to play
 after an ankle problem, although Diego Costa (hamstring) and Loic Remy 
(calf) remain doubts, with academy player Dominic Solanke potentially in
 line for a Premier League debut. 
 
Cesc Fabregas is set to make 
his first return to the Gunners since departing for Barcelona in 2011, 
but Mourinho is not concerned about the midfielder receiving a hostile 
reception, while Wenger has called on Arsenal fans to respect the Spain 
international. 
 
If Wenger is to break his duck against Mourinho,
 Sunday might represent his best opportunity for some time, with Arsenal
 coming into the clash on the back of eight consecutive league 
victories. 
 
Second-placed Arsenal are 10 points behind Chelsea, but Wenger remains confident his side can close that gap. 
 
"When you are fighting for the championship - and I know that well - 
when you are on a good run, sometimes you take points that in another 
season if you were two or three places behind, you would not take," he 
insisted. 
 
"The focus and belief is there and is a bit stronger 
that we can take these points. The difference between the teams is not 
only measured by the difference in points. 
 
"But nobody has given Chelsea the points. They had to fight for it and they made it." 
 
Wenger described defender Per Mertesacker as "50-50" for this game with
 an ankle problem, with Gabriel Paulista set to deputise, while Alex 
Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring) and Mikel Arteta's lack of match fitness 
means they remain absent.

Jose Mourinho has been speaking about Eden
 Hazard’s quality and character ahead of today’s game against Arsenal at
 the Emirates, where a Chelsea win would see the Blues move 13 points 
clear of the Gunners. 
 
Hazard, who has been nominated for both the PFA Player of the Year 
and Young Player of the Year awards, with the results announced tonight,
 has been an integral part of the side over the course of the season, 
and in recent weeks has made a huge contribution. 
 
Last Saturday it was Hazard’s goal which proved decisive against 
Manchester United, while the previous week he laid on the winner for Cesc Fabregas
 at QPR. The Belgian has scored in three of our last four games and 
netted on 18 occasions this season already, surpassing his total for the
 whole of the 2013/14 campaign. 
 
‘He's a fantastic boy, a golden boy,’ said Mourinho.
 ‘The way he behaves, the way he wants to be, the way he respects 
people. Even the way he respects opponents. I don't think there's one 
opponent who will say "he insulted me" or "he made fun of me". 
 
‘He doesn't cheat. He doesn't dive, nothing. Even for opponents, I think he's a fantastic kid. 
‘I feel with him [there is] a great motivation to win the title. When you have great motivations you go over fatigue, over pain. 
 
‘If we win the title he knows that he was fundamental in the team’s 
season. This is what he deserves. He deserves to be champion. 
 
‘The title is what gives you more credit. It's not the individual 
awards, it's not the comments from the pundits or the former stars.’ 
 
Mourinho explained how he uses the ability of players such as Hazard to enhance his teams. 
‘First of all I identify what the team needs and the team needs are 
the start of everything,’ said the Blues boss. ‘I try to make the player
 to be able to bring more what the team needs. These are the kind of 
players that win matches for the team, but you must work them in a way 
where they don't lose matches for the team. 
 
‘In this moment Eden is in a state of mind and a tactical approach 
where this season we won matches because of him and we didn't lose 
matches because of him. This is the kind of player I like because he's a
 talented player that understands the team’s needs. 
 
‘I give him more freedom but to give him more freedom I need to work 
the team to compensate that freedom. You give certain freedom in certain
 areas; the team needs to know that. He's playing with a lot of 
freedom.’ 
 
Ahead of a game in which Loic Remy will definitely miss out through 
injury and a late decision will be made over the availability of Diego Costa, Mourinho paid tribute to the contribution of his whole squad since the start of the season. 
 
‘Petr Cech played matches and he didn't play just because Thibaut was injured,’ explained the Portuguese. ‘ Zouma played the most difficult matches of the season – Liverpool, Man United, Tottenham, Man City. 
 
‘Filipe Luis played so well. When we needed the midfield players to compensate [they did], Mikel, Ramires, all the strikers have been important for us.'

<a href="http://thechelseaofficial.blogspot.com/2015/04/jose-mourinho.html">Jose Mourinho</a> is not prone to regrets, but even he might wonder what might have been when he takes his seat in the Chelsea dugout on Saturday. 
 On the other side of the East Stand tunnel will sit Manchester United 
boss Louis Van Gaal, Mourinho's former mentor now in the job that he 
once appeared desperate to hold himself. Not that he would admit it, of 
course, and there are several sides to the story. If you 
believe Spanish journalist Diego Torres’ book on Mourinho’s time at Real
 Madrid, the Portuguese sobbed when he found out David Moyes had been 
appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor in 2013. Mourinho’s 
own account is that he had known for months about Ferguson’s retirement 
but only ever had eyes for a return TO Chelsea and would have turned 
down an approach from Old Trafford. And there is the version at
 Old Trafford, where they insist Mourinho was never in the running to 
replace Ferguson anyway, mainly due to a feeling that his brashness and 
public courting of controversy did not fit with the ‘United way’. 
 For many United fans, the timing seemed perfect two years ago when 
Ferguson stepped aside just as Mourinho was about to become available. 
It was an open secret that he would be leaving Real Madrid and, at least
 officially, he had not signed anything with Chelsea. Mourinho,
 it appeared, had been courting the job for years with his deferential 
praise of Ferguson and he had appeared to treat Real Madrid’s Champions 
League tie with United that March as an audition. Ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford, he spoke in glowing terms about United and even gave an exclusive interview with MUTV. It was as though he was trying to curry favour with the United fans and boardroom. 
 In the aftermath of Real Madrid’s progression - in part thanks to a 
controversial red card shown to Nani - Mourinho declared: “The best team
 lost. We didn’t deserve to win but football is like this.” It 
was not a typical Mourinho observation, and for many it was another sign
 that he was positioning himself to become Ferguson’s successor. 
 At the time, the pair had an excellent relationship. They were close 
enough to have shared tea in the Lowry Hotel when Real Madrid faced 
Manchester City earlier that season - but that bond was not extended 
when Ferguson anointed his successor. Moyes had never won a 
trophy when he was appointed as United’s manager. Mourinho, who is just a
 few months older than the Scot, had already won two Champions Leagues, 
seven league titles in four countries and 10 other cup competitions. 
 It is in that context that Torres claims Mourinho felt betrayed by 
Ferguson and "crushed" when he realised he would not get the job after 
two days of frantic phonecalls to his agents from the Sheraton 
Mirasierra hotel. Mourinho has denied this account, but what’s 
certainly true is that no-one at United ever picked up the phone to make
 any enquiries about his availability. He was considered, but 
there was a nervousness about Mourinho’s propensity to pick a fight - he
 had poked then Barcelona assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye in 2011. 
 “A United manager would not do that. He’s a really good coach but 
that’s as far as I would go really,” was Sir Bobby Charlton’s assessment
 of the incident - one reflected in the rest of the United boardroom. 
 While Mourinho now talks of building a dynasty at Chelsea and staying 
for the next 10 years, there was also a feeling that he was not a 
top-to-bottom manager - like Ferguson, Moyes and indeed Van Gaal - who 
would pay attention to the academy. Had Mourinho been available
 a year later, United might have considered him the perfect man to help 
the club recover from the Moyes disaster. He could have created more 
iconic Old Trafford memories to add to his famous charge down the 
touchline when his Porto side won there on their way to Champions League
 glory in 2004. The chance, if you can call it that, appears to
 have passed. "There's no other country, club or investment that 
motivates me. I will only leave when Mr Abramovich calls me to tell me 
it is over," said Mourinho in February. Perhaps he is leaving 
himself some wriggle room. If one day Abramovich casts Mourinho aside - 
and he’s done it once before - he could belatedly take over at Old 
Trafford. Mourinho has not completely stopped his charm 
offensive. On Friday he said: "To play against Manchester United is to 
play against one of the biggest clubs in the world and one of the best 
in the Premier League. This is what everyone wants. It is a special 
fixture." But it now looks certain that the 'Special One' will never take charge of Manchester United.

There were 88 minutes on the clock and no goals in the game when, with 
unerring accuracy, Cesc But if all roads led to Stamford Bridge on
 Saturday, he could have been lining up in the colours of the 
opposition. Manchester United spent the summer of 2013 pursuing him. In a
 transfer window where they displayed an embarrassing inability to buy, 
they wanted Ander Herrera too. They got neither. Now potential 
team-mates are opponents. United, presumably aware he was bound for 
Chelsea, ruled themselves out of the reckoning to get Fabregas last 
summer. They renewed their interest in Herrera instead. Now he is the 
Spaniard in the centre of United’s midfield. Perhaps
 it summed up United’s economics that they paid more - £28.8 million – 
for the uncapped Herrera than Chelsea spent on Fabregas, a World Cup 
winner who is closing in on a century of appearances for Spain. There 
may only be three years between them, but if United bought potential, 
Chelsea purchased the finished article. Jose Mourinho is rarely a 
gambler and Fabregas was a risk-free signing. It was why, despite 
Herrera’s heartening recent revival, the league leaders secured the 
better deal. They knew precisely what they were getting. Fabregas
 was immediately installed in a pivotal role in the team whereas 
Herrera’s battle to convince Louis van Gaal lasted most of the season. 
His re-emergence has come in the last two months. Mourinho knew his 
4-2-3-1 formation and preferred personnel before the campaign kicked 
off. Van Gaal has conducted umpteen experiments before finding the 
system and the starters. But after enduring his own mid-season 
break, when he only began one league game in four months, it is little 
wonder Herrera is the fresher of the pair. He has chipped in with four 
goals in his last 10 matches. Fabregas has only one assist in three 
months. He no longer seems certain to break his old Arsenal 
team-mate Thierry Henry’s Premier League record of 20 in a season. That 
winner at QPR was something of a rarity: after 70 goals in his previous 
five seasons, he has only mustered four this time. He has become a 
supplier, whereas Herrera is a scorer; he has seven goals from just 28 
attempts in the most productive season of his career. He has been far 
more clinical than many a striker.  Catalan and Basque, youthful
 veteran and late developer, they are opposites. Fabregas has been 
overworked, Herrera underworked. The Chelsea creator peaked in first 
half of the season, the United technician in the last few weeks. Form 
suggests Herrera might get the better of their duel on Saturday. <img alt="" src="http://u.goal.com/1224600/1224612.jpg" width="100%" /> <img alt="" src="http://u.goal.com/837400/837432.jpg" width="100%" /> Mourinho
 might be tempted to recalibrate his team to avoid pitting Fabregas into
 a direct contest with Marouane Fellaini, the renascent destroyer who 
has tormented Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City in recent weeks. 
The Belgian is a third veteran of the 2013 fiasco, a player who was 
burdened with the pressure of being the sole signing after Fabregas, 
Herrera and many another eluded United. Perhaps it is no coincidence 
that Fellaini has performed better after the subsequent influx of 
expensive players. But that illustrates Fabregas’ achievements at
 Chelsea. Players of his pedigree are not permitted to blend into the 
background. Quiet failure is not an option. He and Diego Costa were the 
flagship signings, the men charged with powering them to the title. They
 have done, too. They have offered incision from different 
departments of the side. Fabregas can unlock a defence with a pass from 
deep, something Chelsea’s central midfielders rarely did last season. He
 has brought the set-piece expertise to find the heads of their 
battalion of six-footers from free kicks and corners. He did not need 
time to acclimatise to new surroundings. He slotted straight in. As
 Mourinho pointed out, Fabregas has fewer assists of late because he 
tended to supply Costa and the striker has been suspended, injured and 
out of sorts for swathes of 2015. But his late intervention at QPR 
extended Chelsea’s lead at the Premier League summit to seven points, 
and with a game in hand. His job for the season is almost done. Keep 
Herrera and United at bay and it will be a step nearer a successful 
conclusion. And while Herrera is helping ensure United reach 
their goal for the season, of a top-four finish, and is offering them 
hope for the future, the chances are that they will come third. That was
 Chelsea’s fate last season. It didn’t satisfy Mourinho. He went and 
bought Fabregas. He has had a transformative impact. He ranks as one of 
the signings of the season. And, as Chelsea’s accountants can note with 
glee, he was cheaper than Herrera.

 Oscar has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus in recent months 
following a mixed season at Stamford Bridge, with the Brazilian 
reportedly deemed expendable by Mourinho. However, Oscar revealed in an exclusive interview with Goal on Thursday that he intends to remain at the club for the foreseeable future, and Mourinho has now poured scorn on suggestions that the 23-year-old could leave Stamford Bridge. 
 "Of course [he isn't leaving Chelsea]. He just signed a contract a few 
months ago. He's one of the players with the best contract, a long-term 
contract,” he told reporters. “A boy at 23 that Chelsea bought three 
years ago. Obviously we don't want to sell." Cuadrado, 
meanwhile, was signed from Fiorentina in January in a £26 million deal 
but has thus far struggled to dislodge Willian from the starting XI, and
 has yet to complete 90 minutes in a blue shirt. Mourinho, 
though, believes the winger will hit top form next season, and has put 
his early struggles down to the difficulty in adjusting to life in 
England.  “It is different to play in Italy than England and different to play for Chelsea than Fiorentina,” he said. 
 “The player needs time and I am ready to give him time and it looks 
like he’s ready. I really believe that next season he will have a 
fantastic season."

 Ake visited a racing track recently to take part in three 
football-themed Audi challenges.</h2>
 
The players were split in to two teams, with Hazard and Ake paired up
 against Willian and Remy with the goal of securing as many points as 
possible. Audi, our official car partner, provided the vehicles around 
which the challenges were centred at a racing track close to the club’s 
training ground in Cobham.

‘It was only when I came to Europe that I started thinking about my 
defensive work,’ the Brazilian said. ‘I have always been told that I am a
 creative player with lots of strength in attacking play but, since I 
arrived here, I have tried to develop the defensive side of my game and 
my marking and it is working for me.’ 
 
Willian arrived at Stamford Bridge from Corinthians, via spells in 
Ukraine and Russia with Shakhtar Donetsk and Anzhi Makhachkala, and has 
become a symbol of the high-pressing, high-energy game Jose Mourinho has
 adopted since his own return to Chelsea. 
 
‘We try to regain possession as soon as we lose it, especially our 
attacking players,’ Willian explains. ‘If you regain the ball fast 
enough you can catch the defence off guard and that’s what the manager 
tries to express to us. We always try to recapture the ball as soon as 
possible.’ 
 
Loic Remy’s recent winner against Stoke was the perfect example, as 
Willian jumped on Asmir Begovic’s loose throw before feeding Eden 
Hazard, and the Belgian in turn laid off for Remy to stroke home and 
grab three valuable points as we march towards the Premier League title.</div>

After watching the Under-19s lift the UEFA
 Youth League title this week in Switzerland, Chelsea’s head of youth 
development Neil Bath has been reflecting on the achievement.</h2>
 
The young side beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the final on Monday following
 a semi-final victory over Roma three days earlier, and they impressed 
throughout the tournament. 
 
Speaking to the official Chelsea website, Bath said: ‘It really is a 
fantastic accomplishment to have won this competition. It is the 
pinnacle of youth football in Europe, with the top clubs involved, so 
the win is a huge credit to everybody involved. 
 
‘Adi Viveash [the Under-19s manager] and all the backroom staff 
deserve massive congratulations, as do the players, many of whom have 
been with us right from the start of their development. However, we must
 always acknowledge in these moments the enormous team effort that has 
gone into the development of this group of players. 
 
‘From the scouts who bring them in at a young age to the staff at 
Cobham whose job it is to then develop them, it is a complete group 
effort and therefore everybody involved in the Academy should be 
incredibly proud.’ 
 
Bath highlighted the conduct of the players on and off the pitch in 
Switzerland, reporting many locals praised their style of football 
during the semi-final and final in Nyon. 
 
‘Our football has been great and I think the people who came to watch
 the two games and to support us have really enjoyed themselves. We’ve 
also been complemented about the manner in which the players and staff 
have conducted themselves on and off the pitch this week. That’s just as
 important to me as winning on the pitch.’ 
 
Bath (pictured below far right) says the achievement is not just a 
reflection of Chelsea’s work in development but also an indication of 
the job being done in England in general.

excellence. English football now has the European club Under-19 
champions and the European international Under-17 champions – that says a
 lot. 
 
‘Ultimately, it’s a wonderful success for the club and a great reward
 for the support we’ve had from the top to the bottom; from the board of
 directors to senior management and staff and right the way through to 
everybody who has worked with these players at one point or another over
 the last 10 years, plus all their families.' 
 
Chelsea’s Under-18s are in action at Stamford Bridge later this month
 when they take on Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup final second leg.

Chelsea will be among a group of elite football clubs taking part in this summer’s International Champions Cup in North America.</h2>
The Blues are among 10 teams signed up to take part in the tournament, with each of our matches shown live on <a href="http://www.chelseafc.com/videos/about-chelsea-tv.html">Chelsea TV</a> (UK and Ireland only). 
 
Fixture details and locations will be announced on April 28 at a 
tournament press conference in New York, but a list of participating
